successfully achieved IPOs and M&As.

[Background and Challenges] Building a Deep Tech Ecosystem
Deep tech startups (hereinafter referred to as DTSUs) play a vital role in solving societal challenges and creating new industries based on innovative technologies originating from universities. While the growth of DTSUs requires engagement from a wide range of stakeholders, Japan’s deep tech ecosystem remains underdeveloped.
For instance, in the IT sector, conferences such as IVS, ICC, and ILS have connected entrepreneurs, investors, and large corporations, creating momentum for startup growth. However, in the deep tech domain, there have been no comparable platforms to date. Activities have largely been small in scale—limited to specific regions or sectors, or relegated to minor segments within larger events.
This program addresses these challenges by launching DeepTech HUB TOKYO, a dedicated ecosystem hub for deep tech innovation. The hub aims to bring together diverse stakeholders, sparking connections that lead to the next stage of development.
DeepTech HUB TOKYO consists of the following three interlinked programs:
Deeptech Founders Academy – Fostering an entrepreneurial mindset among researchers
Deeptech Executive Matching – Creating connections between executive talent and technology seeds
Deeptech Innovation Community – Providing a platform for co-creation among corporates, investors, government agencies, and others
