Overview
Awake Co,. Ltd. was founded in February 2022 by Yamamoto and Nishimura, both former officials of Japan’s Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry (METI). The company’s mission is to “serve as a catalyst between growth-oriented companies and the public sector to drive transformative, discontinuous change in society.”
Awake Inc. operates the following businesses:
PublicHub – an interview platform that brings together around 100 former government officials from Kasumigaseki, offering insights into the realities of policymaking.
Consulting services – supporting the utilization of government initiatives such as subsidies, tax incentives, pilot programs, and government-affiliated funds.
Through these initiatives, Awake aims to support the growth of domestic companies, particularly startups.
Initiative details
We provide support for proof-of-concept (PoC) and demonstration projects, primarily for seed and early-stage deep-tech startups, in collaboration with universities and public institutions. Our support includes:
・Matching assistance with partner universities and public institutions
・Partial financial support for costs associated with PoC and demonstration projects
・Ongoing support, such as project management and operational guidance
These initiatives are carried out in collaboration between Awake Inc. and approximately 100 advisors registered on the “PublicHub” platform, who have backgrounds in Kasumigaseki (central government ministries) and local governments.
Through this support, we aim to help startups across a wide range of fields succeed in their PoC and demonstration projects, and ultimately facilitate large-scale funding from both public and private sectors to accelerate their growth.
