In our annual Global Startup Ecosystem Report (GSER), we publish a ranking of startup ecosystems by city worldwide, and Tokyo was ranked 15th in 2023. It is essential to accelerate the overseas expansion of startups in the middle and later stages to raise Tokyo's position and stabilize its high ranking in the future.
GHT (Global Hypergrowth Tokyo): The project leader of GHT is the former head of the Tech Nation program, which has produced 1/3 of the unicorns from the UK and will bring that know-how to Tokyo to the fullest extent.
GHT will help startups with revenues between JPY 500 million and 3 billion (henceforth “scale-ups”) accelerate their entry and expansion into the US and European markets.
According to our research, unicorns have three key characteristics: 1) they work with a quality ecosystem overseas, 2) they receive regular advice from mentors and advisors, and 3) they target foreign markets from the start.
GHT offers all of this to aspiring scale-ups and more, such as personalized mentorship from successful executives in global markets, personalized connections with prospective corporate clients and channel partners, one-on-one mentoring with key executives from each company, and workshops with experts from around the world.
We will welcome the 20 scaleups to the program by the end of February 2024, with full program activities beginning in March 2024.
