Overview

Our company was established as a spin-out from the consulting division of Samurai Incubate Inc., an independent VC, specializing in innovation support for major corporations and local governments. We have a wealth of experience in incubation and open innovation in new business development with large corporations, higher education institutions such as universities, and municipal governments.
In supporting higher education institutions, we have implemented everything from seed discovery through open innovation-based PoC (Proof of Concept) demonstrations. In particular, we have closely collaborated with researchers and entrepreneurs from the initial idea stage through funding acquisition and prototype development, providing educational support as well as practical service support, offering effective assistance. Furthermore, for projects aiming to balance technological innovation with commercialization, we have provided concrete and practical advice, showing the best paths to accelerate the commercialization process.

Initiative details

By combining four support menus, we will achieve the business vision of “showcasing the support model for university-based life science startups.”
(1) Establishment of a GAP fund program: Establish a GAP fund program in the form of an accelerator program, and support incubation by providing selected startups with funds for project verification and mentoring support.
(2) Seed search and accompaniment support: Create a long list in cooperation with implementing entities with the goal of creating use cases within the project period and building a system that enables independent exploration and development over the long term.
(3) Holding seminars for entrepreneurial support personnel: Share common characteristics and issues among university-based startups in the life science field, and share knowledge unique to each field.
(4) Formulation of intellectual property strategy: Promote the formulation of detailed intellectual property strategies from the initial stage and the utilization of funds based on them.

[Key Activities and Achievements from January to March 2025]

From January to March 2025, we concentrated on selecting promising research themes within the university and supporting researchers interested in entrepreneurship. The accomplishments during this period are summarized below.

● January – February 2025: Intellectual Property Risk Assessment of Research Themes

Within the database of research themes compiled from November to December 2024 by young researchers in the university, SK Patent Attorneys—our corporate partner—evaluated potential intellectual property risks such as the presence of similar patents for those aiming to start businesses or commercialize their research.
As a result, we were able to identify in advance points that should be noted when formulating future intellectual property strategies.

● January – February 2025: Identification of Promising Research Themes within the University

Utilizing the database of young researchers’ themes compiled in November to December 2024, we extracted promising research themes focused on fields with high potential for startup growth.
In this process, we used criteria such as the uniqueness of the technology, social impact, and potential intellectual property risks, with an emphasis on areas that could potentially be implemented in society.

● February – March 2025: Sourcing Researchers Interested in Entrepreneurship

We conducted interviews with researchers working on the above-extracted themes to explore those who are strongly motivated to start businesses or commercialize their research findings.
For researchers found to have such interests, we held multiple individual consultations aimed at refining more detailed business concepts and supported the formation of specific business ideas by utilizing resources both inside and outside the university.

● March 2025: Seminar Held

We organized a seminar on the theme of “Regulations and Dealing with Authorities,” introducing regulatory frameworks and key points in pharmaceutical strategies for each field in healthcare and life sciences.
For participants, it served as an opportunity to gain practical insights into the processes for regulatory compliance and the types of documentation required for applications.
