This initiative is a new approach to accelerating open innovation between impact startups and large corporations through donations. By forming “proof-of-concept” projects between local governments and startups based on social issue themes that interest large corporations, and by raising funds for these proof-of-concept projects through donation-based crowdfunding, we aim to achieve both social issue resolution and business sustainability.
【Problem Recognition】
While there are certain support measures for startups (hereinafter referred to as SUs), which are the main players in solving social issues, open innovation (hereinafter referred to as OI) between large corporations and SUs has not been widely realized. The challenges are: ① the issue of “money” (securing funds for PoC implementation) and ② the issue of “space” (lack of venues for PoC implementation).
As a means to solve these issues, by integrating Social X’s “reverse proposal matching local governments with startups” with MUFG’s network, we hypothesize that we can simultaneously solve the issues of money and space by adding social issue themes from the perspective of large corporations, increasing the number of matches, and raising funds through crowdfunding from supporters (both corporate and individual). To verify this hypothesis starting from Tokyo, we will use this project to confirm the following two points:
① By making the donation needs for projects supporting SUs visible, the issue of “money” will be resolved.
② By integrating Social X’s reverse proposal with MUFG’s network, the issue of “space” will be resolved.
