The widespread adoption of digital fabrication technology is driving significant transformation in manufacturing. However, startups and ecosystems that harness Japan and Tokyo’s strengths in Monozukuri—the spirit and expertise of Japanese craftsmanship and manufacturing—have yet to fully flourish. Japan is home to many talented designers, artists, and creators. However, much of their focus remains on producing individual “works,” with comparatively less momentum toward developing these into businesses, services, or platforms with a startup mindset. Furthermore, existing acceleration and startup programs are not always well-suited to the unique values and ways of thinking of those in the fields of design, art, and architecture. With these challenges in mind, we are launching an incubation program focused on creative fields such as design, art, and architecture. Our program aims to drive entrepreneurship and service design centered around Monozukuri (=prototyping).
