Overview
Academist is a venture company aiming to create a new form of academia where resources such as funding, information, and talent circulate through researchers' self-promotion. In 2014, we launched "academist," Japan's first academic crowdfunding platform. With the mission of "Connecting researchers to thrive," we are developing various initiatives to connect researchers from different perspectives, enabling patronage not only from the government but also from private companies, foundations, and individuals.
Initiative details
With the aim of fostering entrepreneurial spirit among young researchers and graduate students, we will provide research funding support through academic crowdfunding (CF), along with 18 months of commercialization assessment support and networking development by a team of experts. By enhancing each participant’s understanding of ‘entrepreneurship’ and promoting startup initiatives, we will also qualitatively and quantitatively assess the mindset changes of the young researchers involved in this initiative. This will help us establish a methodology to increase the number of PhD entrepreneurs—startups founded by individuals with deep expertise—over the long term.
